Q. Tell us a bit about yourself. What are your hobbies and interests?

For better or worse, many of my hobbies center around tech as well. 🙂 I enjoy programming small devices for IoT applications, including robotics and drones! I’m also an occasional videogamer and musician, having played classical trumpet and guitar/bass in a past life.

I speak English and Spanish, both poorly. But I’m learning. 😀

Q. Why did you select this topic for your session at Voxxed Days Bucharest 2019?

Messaging platforms help improve performance, scalability, reliability, and resilience of microservice-based systems of applications. It’s a vitally important topic, and implementation of messaging is unevenly distributed across companies and industries. It shouldn’t be! Given the right set of tools, it’s easy to leverage the full capabilities of robust messaging platforms like RabbitMQ and Apache Kafka to take your distributed systems to the next level. I just want to help get the word out!

Q. Who should attend your session?

Developers primarily, but architects and managers should get some vital knowledge from it as well. After providing key foundational information, I launch into live-coding examples to make clear how to go from theory to practice. I also narrate extensively while coding to provide important context!

Q. What are the key things attendees will take away from your session?

Attendees will learn how messaging platforms fit into a distributed architecture, what the leading messaging platforms are, what superpowers the fully open source Spring Cloud Stream provides to developers, and most importantly, how to put it all into action as we code (live) examples using RabbitMQ and Kafka!

Q. Aside from speaking at Voxxed Days Bucharest, what are your other plans for this year?

I stay pretty busy, so I’ll be committing code to various projects and visiting numerous cities/countries and to spend time chatting, coding, & drinking copious amounts of coffee with other developers wherever I’m invited! And thank you again for inviting me to Voxxed Days Bucharest, what an amazing event & community!
