Talk: Desugaring Kotlin features and their performance impact

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself. What are your hobbies and interests?

I work as a Software Architect in Vienna. I have a personal affinity for JVM performance and software architecture topics and I spend the majority of my time researching on different subjects and writing articles. I also like to travel and to swim, I very much enjoy the seaside.

Q. Why did you select this topic for your session at Voxxed Days Bucharest 2019?

I spent the latest months coding with Kotlin and I found some interesting cases that I want to share. Kotlin is definitely a modern language on top of the JVM, it offers some nice syntactic sugar features and, in some corner cases, it could be faster than the traditional Java code. I would like to raise this awareness so the attendees could try it later and decide by themselves if it fits their projects or not.

Q. Who should attend your session?

The topic is suitable for every developer who wants to find out some other modern approaches for writing the code (in comparison to Java) in order to have more options and a broader vision.

Q. What are the key things attendees will take away from your session?

A deeper understanding of most used Kotlin language features, how they work under the hood and what is their performance impact. Few tips and tricks are revealed, which really boost the performance in comparison to the Java code.

Q. Aside from speaking at Voxxed Days Bucharest, what are your other plans for this year?

As of now I got accepted to DevDays Vilnius, J On The Beach, GeekOut
