Vlad Mihalcea – Speaker interview

by | Oct 13, 2019 | Speaker Interview, Voxxed Days Cluj-Napoca 2019

Vlad Mihalcea is a Java Champion, CEO of Hypersistence, working currently working on Hypersistence Optimzier. He is passionate about enterprise systems, data access frameworks, and distributed systems. He wrote hundreds of articles about Hibernate on his blog , and he has a gold badge for the Hibernate, Java, and JPA tags on StackOverflow. He’s also the author of the High-Performance Java Persistence book  and video courses.

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself. What are your hobbies and interests?

My name is Vlad Mihalcea, and I’m a Java Champion. I’m currently developing Hypersistence Optimizer, an amazing tool that can help you detect JPA and Hibernate performance issues long before they hot production systems.

Q. Why did you select this topic for your session at Voxxed Days Cluj 2019?

While giving my High-Performance Java Persistence training, I realized that many application developers are not familiar with the latest features introduced by many SQL databases. Hence, I decided to create a new SQL Master Class training, which this presentation is based on as well.

Q. Who should attend your session?

Any developer that needs to access an SQL or NewSQL database should attend this talk.

Q. What are the key things attendees will take away from your session?

This is a very pragmatical session since we are going to real-life situations where a given SQL construct can help you achieve a certain goal. At the end of the talk, developers will get a better idea of what they are missing by not learning what the database is capable of doing for them.

Q. Aside from speaking at Voxxed Days Cluj, what does the year review look like for you?

This year, I only spoke at Voxxed Days Bucharest and TechIT in Cluj, and this is because my schedule was very busy with training sessions, either private to companies in Romania or abroad, or public ones in Oslo or Vienna.

Q. What are your plans for the next year?

For the next year, I plan on improving Hypersistence Optimizer and continue recording my video courses. So, stay tuned for more!
