Keynote: The Java Renaissance

by | Mar 6, 2022 | Voxxed Days Bucharest 2022

Edson Yanaga, Red Hat’s Director of Developer Experience, is a Java Champion and a Microsoft MVP. He is also a published author and a frequent speaker at international conferences, discussing Java, Kubernetes, Quarkus, Microservices, Cloud Computing, and DevOps.

Yanaga believes that everything we do, big or small, matters – and that we can all create a better world for people with better software. His life’s purpose is to deliver good software and to help developers worldwide in delivering better software faster and reliably. Today his job, his hobby, and his life’s purpose are the same thing: and he’s happy that he found his Ikigai.

Legacy. Slow. An insatiable memory consumer. There was some truth to this about Java. And for these reasons, Java didn’t have a place in the Cloud 2.0 landscape for many developers.

After 25 years, Java has been through the middle ages. And luckily, for the benefit of the cloud world, Java is shining again. We’re seeing huge improvements in developer productivity. Production workloads are as fast as ever but consume drastically reduced memory. Java is a strong contender for use cases in unexplored areas. OpenJDK and Eclipse Adoptium are blazing.

Join me in this session, and let me guide you past the dark ages towards the remarkable Java Renaissance.
