Rusty Container Ships: Kubernetes outside the Datacentre
Tim Walls is the Group Architect at EveryMatrix, the iGaming software developer and Platform-as-a-Service Provider headquartered in Bucharest. He began his professional career 25 years ago coding i8051 assembly language for embedded systems, but somehow escaped onto that Internet thing and now has more than 20 years’ experience in the Online Betting & Gaming industry – a world of high volume, low margin transaction and data processing systems at the forefront of global internet and mobile commerce. He spends his days at the intersection of business requirements, technology, and most importantly the people we ask to deliver solutions.
The Internet is our comfort zone – as developers and digital natives we know how to deal with datacentres and CDNs and clouds… But sometimes we are asked to deliver in the real world as well – are we lost at sea, or can some of the tools of the cloud world still help us in the Internet of Things?
In this session I’ll explain how we take datacentre technology like Kubernetes and – with a little bit of Rust for good measure – use it to bring the cloud down to Earth.
